I love music festivals, being outside, enjoying the sun and listening to music can make for an amazing day. However, over the years I’ve learned there are a few things that could go wrong and put a damper on what should be a fun festival weekend. These things include sunburns, dehydration, losing sunglasses or blisters from uncomfortable shoes. Fortunately, all of these things can be avoided with a little bit of planning and preparation. To help you prepare I’ve put together a list of simple, cheap investments that will enhance your Lollapalooza Weekend.

Event Track Recommends: WACOOL Hydration Pack or CamelBak Hydration Pack
It’s going to be hot in Chicago for Lollapalooza and either of these will be a welcomed lifesaver for staying hydrated. There are free water refill stations available throughout the festival grounds, which means you’ll be able to refill your hydration pack for free. Why do I recommend a hydration pack instead of a water bottle? Capacity my friends! Hydration pack’s hold a lot more water, which means more time at the Lollapalooza stages and less time running to the water refill stations.Plus, Lollapalooza isn’t the only thing you can use your hydration pack for, they’re great for any music festival or outdoor event.
Event Track Recommends: Edge I-Wear Neon Party Sunglasses
Some people bring their nice sunglasses to music festivals, where they could potentially lose or break them. I recommend that you leave your $300 designer shades at home and grab this cheap pack of sunglasses with a variety of colors. This way if you set them down and forget about them in the evening or they fall off while you’re dancing the day away, there’s no need to have your Lollapalooza weekend ruined. You simply swap out the lost/broken pair for a new one and continue on your day. Plus having a few extra pairs gives you the opportunity to be someone’s hero when someone in your group loses or forgets their own pair of sunglasses.
Event Track Recommends: Banana Boat Sunscreen, SPF 30
Perhaps you are noticing a theme with the sun and heat. If you forget to apply sunscreen during Lollapalooza Weekend, there’s a good chance that you’ll return from your trip resembling a lobster.
Event Track Recommends: iEGrow Handheld Misting Fan
Lollapalooza, being held at the beginning of August in Chicago, is likely to be very hot. Add in the mid-day sun and crowded areas and you’ll be beyond grateful for the invention of this handheld life saver. When fully charged, it will run for 7 hours in fan mode, 5 hours in misting mode and 3 hours in fan + misting mode, which should be enough to get you through the hottest hours of the day. The best part, the battery is rechargeable, so you could potentially keep it going all day if you bring a portable charger.
Event Track Recommends: Anker Astro Ultra Compact Portable Charger
You will consider this the best $18 you have ever spent when your fan, phone or any other necessary device starts to die in the middle of the day. Bring a portable charger to Lollapalooza and worries about necessary devices dying will be a thing of the past.
Event Track Recommends: iPhone 7 Battery Case, iPhone 6 Battery Case
If you have ever been anywhere with a huge crowd, like Lollapalooza will have, you know your cell phone service is going to struggle. Get a phone case that will charge your phone automatically when the battery starts to drain and make sure you have it when you need to call a Lyft/Uber to get home or meet back up with friends at the end of the night. The nice part with the case is you can easily use it without having to carry something extra with you.
Event Track Recommends: Burt's Bees Lip Balm
You can wait until you’re at Lollapalooza and buy chapstick from the General Store once the inevitable happens, but you’ll be paying 3x the normal price. I warn you now, because I don’t want you to learn the hard way and suffer through chapped lips like I did.
Event Track Recommends: Eargasm High Fidelity Earplugs
Want to protect your hearing without losing any of the sound quality? These earplugs are your best bet, you'll still hear everything, but at a noise level that's safe for your ears. Not only do these earplugs have 4.4 stars on Amazon, but the reviews include musicians, so you can trust you're getting a great product for a really good price.
Event Track Recommends: PURELL Advanced Instant Hand Sanitizer
Have you ever been to a music festival porta potty in the evening hours? If you haven’t, just know they can get filthy. Furthermore, there is about an 94% chance the soap dispenser ran out of soap 3 hours ago so you'll have no way to properly clean your hands. Do you really want to eat those late night munchies with gross porta potty germs on your hands? Bring a bottle of hand sanitizer with you to Lollapalooza and you won't have to. It won’t solve your Lollapalooza porta potty woes completely, but at least your hands won’t be disgusting when you use them to eat!
Event Track Recommends: Kleenex Facial Tissues, 10 ct, 3 Pack
Speaking of bathrooms, the bathrooms will run out of toilet paper, so you may want to consider bringing some form of backup with you. These small packs of kleenex are easy to grab and will fit into most any size bag.
Event Track Recommends: Cosy Meadow Outdoor Festival Blanket
This blanket is lightweight and easy to carry around, but still a great option when you need something clean and/or comfortable to sit on between shows. This is the blanket we use at festivals, because it is reasonably priced, provides a clean place to sit and is easy to wash.
Event Track Recommends: Undetectable Plastic Flask, 9 Pouches
You are not allowed to bring alcohol into Lollapalooza and we don't condone breaking the rules when attending the festival. That said, I have had tremendous success with these plastic flasks. Just don't be obvious and you will be able to smuggle in your party enhancers no problem.
Event Track Recommends: Pedialyte Variety Powder Pack, 24 Count
Even if you are drinking a lot of water, it's still possible to get dehydrated in the Chicago heat. Drinking pedialyte when you get back to your home/hotel in the evening and when you wake up in the morning is an easy solution that will assist in preventing dehydration and replacing electorlytes and fluids.
Event Track Recommends: Totes Poncho
Even in August, Chicago weather can be unpredictable and rain is always a possibility at Lollapalooza. Umbrellas are not allowed into Lollapalooza, so your best bet for staying dry is a poncho.
Event Track Recommends: Drawstring Backpack
I recommend this drawstring backpack, because it’s small enough to meet Lollapalooza guidelines, but still big enough to hold your small essentials (sunglasses, umbrella, portable charger, etc).
I don't have a specific recommendation as this is far too personal, but I cannot stress the importance of having comfortable shoes for Lollapalooza enough. Music festival days can be tough: it's hot, you’re on your feet all day and you'll be shocked to see you walked 11.7 miles by the end of the day. With that much time on your feet, the only thing that will save your feet and help you push through all three days is comfortable shoes.
Pretty much every vendor takes card at Lollapalooza, but it’s still nice to have cash sometimes for quicker transactions, especially when you're in a rush to get back to the stage. Plus, It’s also nice to have a few bucks to buy the $2 water quickly versus having to wait for the card to go through. I recommend bringing at least $40 to Lollapalooza for small purchases throughout the weekend.
