I love music festivals, being outside, enjoying the sun and listening to music can make for an amazing day. However, over the years I’ve learned there are a few things that could go wrong and put a damper on what should be a fun festival weekend. These things include sunburns, dehydration, losing sunglasses or blisters from uncomfortable shoes. Fortunately, all of these things can be avoided with a little bit of planning and preparation. To help you prepare I’ve put together a list of simple, cheap investments that will enhance your Arroyo Seco Weekend.

Event Track Recommends: WACOOL Hydration Pack or CamelBak Hydration Pack
It’s likely to be hot in Pasadena for Arroyo Seco Weekend and either of these will be a welcomed lifesaver for staying hydrated. There are free water refill stations available throughout the festival grounds, which means you’ll be able to refill your hydration pack for free. Why do I recommend a hydration pack instead of a water bottle? Capacity my friends! Hydration packs hold a lot more water, which means more time at the Arroyo Seco Weekend stages and less time running to the water refill stations. Even on a hot day, the water refill lines were not long, so you can get in, fill up and be on your way quickly. Plus, Arroyo Seco Weekend isn’t the only thing you can use your hydration pack for, they’re great for any music festival or outdoor event.

Event Track Recommends: Edge I-Wear Neon Party Sunglasses
Some people bring their nice sunglasses to music festivals, where they could potentially lose or break them. I recommend that you leave your $300 designer shades at home and grab this cheap pack of sunglasses with a variety of colors. This way if you set them down and forget about them in the evening or they fall off while you’re dancing the day away, there’s no need to have your weekend ruined. You simply swap out the lost/broken pair for a new one and continue on your day. Plus having a few extra pairs gives you the opportunity to be someone’s hero when someone in your group loses or forgets their own pair of sunglasses.

Event Track Recommends: iEGrow Handheld Misting Fan
Taking place in the middle of June in Pasadena means that it’s likely to be hot during Arroyo Seco Weekend. Add in the mid-day sun and crowded areas and you’ll be beyond grateful for the invention of this handheld life saver. When fully charged, it will run for 7 hours in fan mode, 5 hours in misting mode and 3 hours in fan + misting mode, which should be enough to get you through the hottest hours of the day. The best part, the battery is rechargeable, so you'll be able to plug it in overnight and use it again the next day!

Event Track Recommends: Banana Boat Sunscreen, SPF 30
Perhaps you are noticing a theme with the sun and heat. If you forget sunscreen at Arroyo Seco Weekend there’s a good chance that you’ll return from your trip resembling a lobster.

Event Track Recommends: Burt's Bees Lip Balm
You can wait until you’re at Arroyo Seco Weekend and buy chapstick from the General Store once the inevitable happens, but you’ll be paying 3x the normal price. I warn you now, because I don’t want you to learn the hard way and suffer through chapped lips like I did.

Event Track Recommends: Eargasm High Fidelity Earplugs
Want to protect your hearing without losing any of the sound quality? These earplugs are your best bet, you'll still hear everything, but at a noise level that's safe for your ears. Not only do these earplugs have 4.4 stars on Amazon, but the reviews include musicians, so you can trust you're getting a great product for a really good price.

Event Track Recommends: Anker Astro Ultra Compact Portable Charger
If you have ever been anywhere with a huge crowd, like Arroyo Seco Weekend will have, you know your cell phone service is going to struggle. As your iPhone struggles to find that one precious bar at Arroyo Seco Weekend, the battery is getting drained quickly. Bring a portable phone charger to Arroyo Seco Weekend so you have a way to re-charge at night when your phone is dying. Having an operating phone is critical, especially if you need to call an Uber to get home or meet back up with friends at the end of the night. Save yourself from a precarious situation by investing in a reasonably priced phone charger.

Event Track Recommends: iPhone 7 Battery CaseiPhone 6 Battery Case
Same logic as the portable phone charger, just a different approach to the same Arroyo Seco Weekend problem. The nice part with the case is you can easily use it without having to carry something extra with you.

Event Track Recommends: PURELL Advanced Instant Hand Sanitizer
Have you ever been to a music festival porta potty in the evening hours? If you haven’t, just know they can get filthy. Furthermore, there is about an 87% chance the soap dispenser ran out of soap 3 hours ago so you'll have no way to properly clean your hands. Do you really want to eat those late night munchies with gross porta potty germs on your hands? Bring a bottle of hand sanitizer with you to Arroyo Seco Weekend and you won't have to. They won’t solve your Arroyo Seco Weekend bathroom woes completely, but at least your hands won’t be disgusting when you use them to eat!

Event Track Recommends: Drawstring Backpack
I recommend this drawstring backpack, because it’s small enough to meet Arroyo Seco Weekend guidelines, but still big enough to hold your small essentials (sunglasses, umbrella, portable charger, etc).

When you want a good spot for a specific show or you're seeing back-to-back artists at the same stage, you'll have downtime while you wait. For these times, sitting on the ground is always a free and accessible option, but if you want a more comfortable and/or cleaner option, we recommend bringing a chair or blanket with you.

Event Track Recommends: Alps Folding Chair
A chair is the most comfortable option while you wait, but the most inconvenient during all other times in the day since you'll have to carry it along with you everywhere you go. With that being said, a collapsible chair may be the best option for you if you're planning to sit in it during the shows. Keep in mind that in order to see the stage and/or screen while using a chair, you'll have to sit fairly far back from the stage or risk having the stage/screen blocked and/or being trampled by those standing around you. The chair recommended, is a low price, lightweight option with free shipping.

Event Track Recommends: Cosy Meadow Outdoor Festival Blanket
Our personal preference is the blanket option. It's lightweight and easy to carry around with you, but still a great option for having something clean and or comfortable to sit on between shows. Our recommendation is a lower priced option, that will provide a place to sit, can withstand the rain and gives you a simple alternate to sitting on the ground.

I don't have a specific recommendation as this is far too personal, but I cannot stress the importance of having comfortable shoes for Arroyo Seco Weekend enough. Music festival days can be tough, it's hot, you’re on your feet all day, you walk 11.7 miles running between stages, you'll want to do all of this in comfortable shoes. Also, I recommend wearing closed toes shoes. There's a lot of dust and dirt at the festival, which left my feet extremely dirty at the end of each day. I can guarantee I'll be wearing closed toe shoes for future Arroyo Seco Weekend trips.

Cash is quicker and easier to use when you only need to buy a $2 water. I always bring $40 with me to music festivals for small purchases here and there.

There you have it, all the things you need to should consider bringing with you to Arroyo Seco Weekend. I know it’s a lot of stuff, but most of it is really cheap and will make Arroyo Seco Weekend a better experience overall. Have an essential on your list that I don’t have on mine? I’d legitimately love to hear it, let me know by contacting me at
