As soon as I saw LCD Soundsystem and Kendrick Lamar were on the same day when Voodoo released their daily lineups I was sad. It's a growing trend in music festivals to book more headliners than days of the festival, and therefore the headliners play against each other. Austin City Limits is the prime example this year with festivalgoers having to choose between Red Hot Chili Peppers and Chacne and also between Gorillaz and The Killers. Those decision sucks and I assumed we were going to have to do that at Voodoo as well. I am very happy that I am wrong! Voodoo released their 2017 set times today and LCD Soundsystem will play before Kendrick on the main stage, allowing attendees to see both artists. Hooray! That was the big highlight for me with the Voodoo set times, but here's what else was notable in my opinion:

  • Tough spot for Galantis: playing against Kendrick and then also people will be setting up camp for LCD soundsystem and Prophets of Rage; could be a good chance to see him with a sparse crowd if Kendrick isn't your thing

  • Some nice options at the Toyota Music Den all Voodoo long: Mondo Cozmo, Chicano Batman, SuperDuperKyle, etc. If you've never been it's a nice, small and intimate setting to see an artist

  • Maybe I am the only one struggling with this conflict but Brand New vs. Illenium is tough: both just dropped terrific new albums

  • Overall I thought Voodoo did a nice job by separating out genres to minimize conflicts: good job Voodoo!
