The thing that can make Coachella crazy expensive is where you're staying. Camping is the cheapest but it's not for everybody.... hotels in the area book up really fast though! So do it as soon as you buy your tickets! Before that even because anyone who bought tickets presale has probably already booked by the time regular tickets go on sale.
With that said, hotels around there at least double their prices during Coachella weekends. So even normally cheap hotels become very expensive! The best option is to rent a house on HomeAway or Airbnb. It costs about the same a night as a hotel would and you get the whole house! And there's more space to invite more people to your group.
Honestly I've met people at Coachella who are now some of my good friends. The people who say coachella is overrated are the people who have never been
Coachella is rad because there is stuff in the lineup for everybody! Where else can you see Bon Iver, Lady Gaga, and Future all in the same place????
I did not expect the food selection to be so massive! Whatever you could want to eat they have it and it's delicious. I will say the food is pretty overpriced though...
I know the ticket itself is expensive but honestly it's so worth it! All those concerts you can see make it well worth it. coachella is something everyone should do at least once but once you do it, you'll be hooked and ready to go every year the rest of your life, dancing in the desert with some good friends
Coachella is not perfect, but it's pretty damn close. I know so many people focus on celebrities, parties and a bunch of other crap but Coachella as a music festival is still terrific. If you go purely for music and not all the other bullshit then you will love Coachella.
-Terrific lineups every year. Arguably the best rock band, rap artist and pop star as headliners last year
-The venue is by far the best; it is spacious with the stages well separated and the crowds are never too bad besides for the Sahara tent
-Well run: this festival is organized and a well oiled machine
-The palm trees lit up at night and those dreamy SoCal sunsets
-Far better weather than other festivals: yes it's hot but it never rains and its not humid
-Delicious food brought in from SF and LA
-You can only drink in designated areas; pretty ridiculous
-Expensive, Coachella is super expensive, especially if you don't camp
