UPDATE: Gorillaz have been confirmed for Austin City Limits 2017! We have a news post on all the bands that have been confirmed officially by ACL - check it out here.

Gorillaz Tour Life IS Beautiful

Today the Gorillaz announced a world tour and it has some interesting implications for Austin City Limits. For 2017 Austin City Limits will run from October 6th to October 8th and Austin City Limits Weekend Two will be from October 13th to October 15th. While sometimes Austin City Limits books acts for one weekend and not the other, a headliner like the Gorillaz would almost certainly need to be able to play both weekends. Looking at the tour dates technically the Gorillaz are not eliminated from either weekend, with Sunday of Austin City Limits being the most likely day they would headline. Austin City Limits Weekend One is wide open, but Weekend Two for ACL is the concern. In theory Gorillaz could play III Points in Miami and still come to ACL for Weekend Two. LCD Soundsystem last year was scheduled to do exactly this until they near the end dropped out of III Points, but still played Austin City Limits. Thus Gorillaz are definitely still in play for Austin City Limits. It's a little suspicious they announced so many other festivals before their lineups dropped, but hopefully that's just the marketing power of a large festival like Austin City Limits not letting them announce the date yet. So are Gorillaz doing Austin City Limits? God I hope so, but only time will tell. Last year Austin City Limits announced their lineup on May 5th, so we're almost there!
