Mardi Gras's official dates have it beginning on Feb. 13, 2018 and ending on Feb. 13, 2018. In general when we track hotel prices we add a day before the event start and a day after the event. For some events, like marathons we give an additional day before the event. For Mardi Gras we track hotel prices for Feb. 12, 2018 - Feb. 14, 2018.
Mardi Gras consists of the parades that roll down the street and the revelry that happens in the bars on Bourbon Street. The parade portion of this is free, while the bars will cost you. Luckily New Orleans love to party, especially for Mardi Gras, and drinks are really cheap. New Orleans is still the only place I have seen buy one get three free drinks. The main cost of Mardi Gras will be your hotel stay, not attending the actual parade.
